If you have been hit hard by Hurricane Sandy and your property has been partially or totally destroyed. First, contact your insurance company and find out what they will cover. Also, take pictures of your home and the condition it is in now. Look for some before pictures, if you have them. If you can gather a list of all your belongings, that would help the insurance company come up with an estimated value for your losses. Also, contact FEMA, they might be able to provide disaster assistance. Here’s how to apply for FEMA assistance: http://www.fema.gov/apply-assistance. Also contact 311 (NYC) or 211 (Westchester) and your Department of Social Services for questions regarding assistance. Most of all, stay calm and know that things will get better. “After every storm the sun shines through.”
